Lesson Description or Explanation
Students will have just finished reading the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell. Students will log onto a wiki site that has been created by the teacher. On the site are five different headings, each one with a significant quote from the novel. The students will get into five groups, determined by the teacher to ensure differentiation of students. Each group of students will work on one quote and answer a question for that specific quote. After a few minutes the students will post their response on the wiki site, using pre-determined specific text font and/or color, and move on to the next quote. Once on the next quote the students will first make sure that the answer from the previous group is correct, and then answer another question related to the quote. The groups of students will continue to do this as they rotate through each quote and eventually go through all five quotes and return to their original quote. The groups will then asses the answers posted by their peers. After each group is satisfied with the answers to all five questions for each quote, they will then create a PowerPoint presentation to present to the class. Students will have complete freedom in their presentation of the significance of the quote.

a. understand and use technology systems.
b. select and use applications effectively and productively.
c. troubleshoot systems and applications.
d. transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies.
Assessments
Formative/Summative
This activity lends itself well to several informal assessments. The students are responsible for self checking each group’s previous work. Since the groups are each assigned a specific style and color of font, the teacher can track each group’s response to each task, and formatively assess their progress. Other formative assessments that will be done through out the project will be how well the students work together in a group, how well, and to what extent they utilize technology to complete the final presentation, and how well students are able to determine if the previous answer posted on the Wiki site is correct or not. Summatively, the students will be assessed on each individual response to each question and their final presentation. Students will then be required to write a paper detailing their involvement and experience through this project.

Procedure
Prior to the start of the first class the teacher will create a Wiki site with five significant quotes from the novel Animal Farm.
Day One: Students will begin class by getting into their pre-assigned groups and logging onto to one of the computers in the room. The students will begin the activity, rotating through the quotes and completing each task within a given amount of time, using a pre-determined font color and/or style. The tasks are as follows:
Task 1: Identify where in the novel the quote occurs. Write the page and paragraph on the post-it.
Task 2: Who said this quote? Write the name of the speaker under the page and paragraph.
Task 3: What is the context of the quote? What was going on in the story? Explain in a few sentences.
Task 4: Is this quote an example of satire, parody, allegory, or pastoral? Explain in a few sentences.
Task 5: What does this quote reveal about the social conditions of the time? What do you think the author was trying to say here? Explain in a few sentences.
Task 6: Return to original quote and review all of the responses of the previous groups. Make additions and corrections to their responses where you see necessary.
Day Two: Students, after already being satisfied with the answers to each quote will begin making a PowerPoint presentation. Students will have freedom how they choose to present the quote and answers. Students are able to use simple text, or they can choose to use graphics, pictures, video clips, and even movies.
Day Three: Student groups will present their PowerPoint presentation to the class and post the presentation on the same Wiki site. After all groups have presented, and posted their presentation, they class will debrief and discuss all the presentation and quotes together as a class.
Differentiated Instruction
ESL To accommodate ESL students the groups would be decided based on students with strong English language skills, preferably native English speakers, grouped with ESL students. Additionally, I would give a quick overview of the Google application which allows websites to be translated into another language.
Challenge/Extend
Students who need extra challenge or their assignment extended will be designated group leaders. They will be responsible for ultimately deciding on the final answers for the presentation. They will also be responsible for training special needs and ESL students on the technology. Additionally, these students will also be assessed on their ability to manage and produce a cohesive group and presentation.
Special Needs
Students with special needs will be grouped with higher achieving students.
